f. About Bakersfield

Bakersfield has always enjoyed a strong sense of community, a hometown ethic more attuned to America’s Midwest than its West Coast. The families of Bakersfield have rural roots, established generations ago on the vast farms, groves and ranches of this fertile section of the state. While more modern modes of employment have emerged, and farming shares the city’s economy with high technology, the hometown character remains intact. People still aspire to live quieter lives, where they truly know their neighbors and feel totally at home within their environment. Close-knit neighborhoods, traditional architecture, ample gathering places and walkable streets are all essential to a Bakersfield community. Aware of these truths, Castle & Cooke has created a new community at Ming and Gosford Rd. that lives up to the dreams and desires of Bakersfield residents-to live in the present without abandoning a connection to the past.

g. Bakersfield at a Glance

Bakersfield, with a population of approximately 300,000, is located just 110 miles north of Los Angeles at the southern end of the San Joaquin Valley at an elevation of 492 ft. The city is surrounded by the Tehachapi Mountains to the south, the Temblor Range to the west and the Sierra Nevadas to the east. The Kern River flows through the valley adding recreational opportunities and natural beauty to the area.

History

It was water, agriculture and oil that brought a steady stream of settlers to the swamp land of the Kern Delta – people drawn by a dream to stake claim to the riches of the Valley. Seemingly overnight, fortunes were made and the city of Bakersfield was born – born on the backs of those early migrants determined to build a new life – a life of promise and prosperity, a life of hope and future. Today, the people of Kern County honor the vibrant history of its earliest citizens and the Native Americans who shared the land.

d. Friendly Neighborhood Design™

University Park is an excellent example of the proprietary concept of Friendly Neighborhood Design™ (FND™). FND™ is a commitment to create places where belonging, gathering, meeting and living are every day events. FND™ incorporates five key principles:  Master-planning that fosters open space and a connection to nature; Homes with authentic architecture design and livability; Creative site planning and activities that inspire “community”; Landscape design that creates imaginative streetscapes; and a Commitment to Green Building, to provide energy efficiency, improved air quality, recycling and water conservation. FND™ was created by Castle & Cooke, the developers of University Park.

e. Unique Design

The homes and neighborhoods of University Park were designed for a Life on the Go. For our designers, this translates into efficient design for low maintenance, energy efficiency, and environmental consideration.
